| If you’re an Executive at a busy in-licensing
or alliance department of a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company,
then this club is for you.
In the current economic downturn, superimposed upon the continued
restructuring of the pharmaceutical industry, there is an ever increasing
demand for companies to expand their externalisation and in-licensing
activities, but with less time available from other internal scientific
experts and departments to devote the time to supporting such activities.
Outside resources are required to supplement those internal ones.
Globally companies have been very successful in recent years in
overriding the ‘not-invented here’ syndrome and making
huge returns on licensed in clinical programmes. As early as 1998,
the contribution that in-licensed compounds made to companies’
blockbuster drug earnings was evident (see Booz Allen Hamilton data
below). More than a quarter of pharma revenue comes from in-licensed
products.

The trend is growing and as more and more companies compete for
fewer and fewer high quality programmes, such that programmes must
now be identified and in-licensed at an earlier stage; phase I or
even late pre-clinical.
Whilst P2F can be contracted to help find new exciting pre-clinical
projects from non-profit academic institutions worldwide (esp in
oncology), there is an advantage in sourcing projects that are already
commercial assets as there is more chance that they will have been
through more rigorous due diligence already and come with more tightly
regulated packages and quality controlled data.
However finding better homes for proprietary non-publicised company
assets, where such homes are likely to be nestled in the heart of
a competitor can be a tall order and a potentially politically sensitive
issue to approach.
Through this site and P2F’s independent position, close control
of confidential information and guaranteed anonymisation of source*,
technologies can get their first airing amongst a select and monitored
group of individuals who are invited to give their feedback on technology,
intellectual property (if patents are published), potential markets
and valuation models.
If any member was to become particularly interested in more confidential
information on a particular technology with synergy with their own
company, P2F will contact the member who provided the technology
and give them the option of contacting the requesting member directly.
Once a year P2F will run also run a ‘closed’ confidential
workshop at different worldwide venues for club members only. These
meetings will be a base to:
- Discuss generic issues affecting the pharmaceutical market
- Compare and contrast valuation models and licensing strategies
- To review the club list of technologies in more detail
- Cross fertilise ideas and share experiences
- Network with a small number of people with licensing capacity
Benefits of Club Membership
Club membership is free, but provides:
- An opportunity to review industry sourced therapeutic agents
& technologies at clinical and pre-clinical stages
- A forum to submit your own company’s partnering opportunities
without having to disclose their origination (if you want the
source of technology to be confidential please remove all company
references from submitted materials)
- A forum for honest feedback from executives and peers in similar
positions at other companies
- The opportunity to be the first to review possible in-licensing
opportunities. An email alert is sent for every new technology
submitted.
