Introduction

Now is a time when the value of new opportunities may be highest as technology valuations may be at their lowest due to current financial market conditions, but the window wont last! Risk is higher as short term exit routes are less realisable. Money invested has to work harder and be more efficient. Risks have to be analysed deeper and existing investments re-structured to fit the new economy.

The consequence of this is that the contractual costs of doing business will escalate.

P2F can help reduce these costs by being retained on a short to medium term basis and in certain cases providing some work in return for carried interest in equity or delivery of key business development income milestones, such as securing an early licensee.

Simon Youlton has a track record in early life science ventures that includes being a Director on a management buy-out team of a life science co; advising on strategic and operational plans for a number of academic spin out ventures including:

Serving on the Boards of spin out ventures (Spear, PETRRA) and working with bus dev teams from a number of successful CRUK spin outs including KuDOS and Antisoma.

In addition through P2F’s BIOnetwork we can source and recruit scientific experts from across the many biomedical scientific disciplines to help conduct due diligence.

As well as a business development network, Simon has built up a network of scientific knowledge and contacts at Europe’s most prestigious medical research centres having managed CRT’s business relationships with such foreign non-CRUK institutes for more than 6 years. These include the Netherlands Cancer Institute, The Deutsches Krebsforchungszentrum (the German Cancer Research Center); IFOM/IEO in Italy, the Danish Cancer Centre, PRBB and CRG Barcelona, University of Barcelona, and numerous other Universities across Europe. Simon also did the ground work for setting up the first trans-Atlantic business for CRT and the groundwork to setting up the CRT Inc Boston office.

P2F also routinely promotes new seedcorn investment opportunities arising from academia and works with young companies already funded in a business development capacity that may have synergies with your existing portfolio companies.

We would be interested in hearing from any investors to ascertain the type of new projects they are seeking or opportunities to help leverage value from their existing portfolio assets.
